See Exactly Who's Ranking for Any Keyword
The Top by Keyword report shows the complete list of domains and pages ranking in the Top 100 organic results for any keyword. For each result you see the URL, its position, estimated traffic, and total keyword count — giving you a precise SERP snapshot to benchmark your own content against.
What you can achieve:
Map the full competitive SERP: See every domain fighting for a keyword — not just the top 3 — and identify who has the most to lose if you enter the race.
Benchmark content quality requirements: Understand how many keywords and how much traffic the current top-ranking pages have — this is the bar you need to clear.
Spot weak spots in the rankings: Find positions held by low-authority or thin-content pages that you can realistically displace.
Getting Started
Navigate to Keyword Research → Top by Keyword in the left sidebar.
Enter your target keyword and select the regional database.
Click Search. The report loads the top-ranking pages for that keyword.
Click the expand arrow next to any URL to see the full keyword profile for that page.
Click any domain name to jump directly to its full Site Analysis.
Key Metrics Explained
Position: The current rank of this URL for the searched keyword. Position 1–10 = first page, 11–20 = second page.
URL: The specific page holding this ranking. Click the expand arrow to see all keywords it ranks for.
Keywords: Total number of queries for which this page appears in the Top 100 — a signal of how broadly the page covers its topic.
Estimated Traffic: Predicted monthly organic visitors to this URL — useful for sizing the prize if you can displace it.
Facebook Shares: Social sharing count — pages with high shares often have strong backlink profiles as well.
Pro Tip: Find the Most Beatable Position on Page 1
Not every page-1 result is equally hard to displace. This workflow finds the weakest link.
Look at positions 5–10 — the lower half of page 1 receives dramatically less traffic than positions 1–3, but ranking there is far more achievable.
Click the expand arrow on any page in that range. Check its keyword count — pages with fewer than 20 keywords are often thin-content pages that haven't been fully optimized.
Click that page's domain to run a Site Analysis — check its SDR (authority score).
The goal: A page in position 6–9 with low keyword count and low SDR is your best displacement target. Outranking it requires better content and modest link building — not a full domain authority battle.
⚠️ Important: Top by Keyword shows data from Serpstat's most recent SERP crawl for the selected regional database. Rankings fluctuate constantly — treat this as a directional snapshot, not a real-time feed. For live position monitoring on specific keywords, use Rank Tracker. |
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why do I see pages ranked that don't seem relevant to my keyword?
A: Google's algorithm considers topical authority and user intent, not just keyword matching. A broadly authoritative domain may rank for your keyword even if it doesn't specifically target it. These are still worth studying — they signal what content types Google currently rewards for this query.
Q: Can I see the Top by Keyword report for a specific region?
A: Yes — select your target regional database (e.g., Google US, Google UK) before searching. Rankings vary significantly by region, so always check the market you're actually competing in.
Q: How is this different from the Competitors report in SEO Research?
A: Top by Keyword shows the full ranked list of pages for a single keyword (SERP snapshot). The Competitors report aggregates at the domain level and shows which domains appear most often across all related keyword variations.
