Finding Winning Queries

The Keywords report reveals the complete list of search queries for which a domain, subfolder, or specific URL ranks in the Top 100. This is your primary source for competitor benchmarking and content inspiration.

What you can achieve:

  • Spy on Competitors: See which keywords bring the most traffic to your rivals.

  • Find Content Gaps: Identify valuable keywords your competitors rank for, but you don't.

  • PPC Insights: Analyze which keywords competitors are bidding on in Google Ads.

Getting Started

  1. Go to Site Analysis in the left sidebar and select Keywords.

  2. Enter a domain, subfolder, or URL in the search bar and choose the target country.

  3. Switch between the SEO, PPC, and AI Overview tabs depending on the data you need.

  4. Use the quick filters above the table to apply a common filter set in one click. Available filters: All keywords, AI Overview keywords, AI Overview Mentions, Low-Hanging Fruits, Low KD keywords, Increased positions, and Decreased positions.

  5. Use Filters to narrow results by position, volume, keyword difficulty, and more.

Key Metrics Explained

  1. Position: Where the domain ranks for this keyword. A "New" label indicates a keyword that recently entered the Top 100.

  2. Volume: The average number of monthly searches for this keyword.

  3. CPC (Cost Per Click): The average price advertisers pay for a click in Google Ads. High CPC often signals high-intent, "money" keywords.

  4. Keyword Difficulty (KD): An estimate of how hard it would be to rank in the Top 10 for this phrase.

  5. Language: The language of the keyword. The column, its filter, and the export field are available for regional databases with language data.

  6. Quick filters: Low KD keywords shows keywords with difficulty below 20. AI Overview Mentions shows keywords where your domain is cited in the AI Overview.

Pro Tip: Find "Low-Hanging Fruit"

Don't waste time on impossible keywords. Use this workflow to find phrases where you can win quickly.

  1. Enter your own domain in the search bar.

  2. Click the Low-Hanging Fruits quick filter. It shows keywords in positions 4–15 with keyword difficulty below 40.

  3. These keywords already rank close to the top. Improve the content or add internal links to move them higher and gain more traffic.

⚠️ Important: Keyword data is updated regularly, but new rankings may take a few days to appear. For real-time monitoring of specific keywords, use the Rank Tracker module.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why don't I see a specific keyword that I know my site ranks for?
A: Serpstat tracks millions of keywords, but it may not include every long-tail or highly specific phrase. If a keyword is missing, add it to your Rank Tracker project and we will start monitoring it specifically for you.

Q: What does the "Keyword Difficulty" score tell me?
A: It's a scale from 0 to 100. Scores above 60 are considered difficult and usually require a high-authority domain and many backlinks. For new sites, we recommend targeting keywords with KD below 30.

Q: Why don't I see the Language column?
A: Language data is available only for some regional databases. For other databases, the Language column and its filter are not shown.

Q: Why does the keyword count differ from the Overview report?
A: By default, the Keywords report shows only the domain's best position for each keyword, the same way the Overview counts keywords. If a domain ranks several times in one SERP, the other positions are hidden. Remove the best position condition in Filter to see all positions.

Q: How can I see only keywords that contain a specific word?
A: Use the Filter button above the table. Select "Keyword" → "Contains" → and type your word. This is great for finding all "how-to" or "price" related queries. You can filter by up to 6 keywords in one condition.
